Descripción: Dow Jones is building out a new business unit tasked with developing knowledge-enablement products for our customers. This nimble and fast-paced team is operating independently, but with access to Dow Jones’ content and data (including that in The Wall Street Journal, the Barron’s Group properties, Dow Jones DNA, Factiva, and Newswires). The business unit is using this extensive content and research capability, alongside AI and graph technology, to build whole new customer experiences and analytical tools serving our professional and consumer customers.
Successful applicants will have demonstrated technical aptitude, flexibility in working with cross-functional teams and an eagerness to work in a distributed and autonomous team with direct access to customers.
Dow Jones is seeking a engineer with extremely strong engineering skills to join a newly formed team, created as part of a strategic initiative that has identified some high growth opportunities for the organization. The team’s goal is to develop a new generation of knowledge products, powered by technologies such as graph databases, ML/AI and cloud computing, aimed at extreme information users, both internally and externally. The team will seek to harness all data and content available to Dow Jones and help our customers make sense in near-real time of how news events are impacting their world.
This is a small organization so individuals who are able to pivot and adapt on the fly as well as willingness to learn and get one’s hands dirty, including in areas beyond the original remit, are all a must.
Responsibilities
As part of a cross-functional agile software team, you will design, implement, and maintain our web applications in a highly collaborative environment.
Participate and lead technical discussions about technology, infrastructure and consider the pros/cons of a technology choice based on business value, scalability, maintainability and project delivery performance.
Support Dow Jones technical cultural values and are capable of driving toward solutions independently, and seeking feedback when appropriate.
Maintain and share knowledge in emerging technologies and tools in the industry.
Ability to prioritize and manage work, adhering to critical project timelines in a fast-paced environment.
Basic Qualifications
BS/MS in Computer Science or equivalent.
3+ years of software development experience, a github development portfolio warranting waving this requirement, or ability to complete coding challenge prior to interview.
Excellent verbal and written English skills.
Proven understanding of Computer Science fundamentals including web development, service-oriented architecture, cloud computing, test driven development, and domain driven design.
Working knowledge of in one or more of the following technologies Scala, Python, or JavaScript.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with big data technologies such as Spark, Hadoop, or Beam/DataFlow.
Experience with cloud technologies usage a Amazon Web Services (AWS) or Google Cloud Projects (GCP).
Experience with CI/CD technologies such as Jenkins, Google Cloud Build or TeamCity
Exposure to Docker, Kubernetes or other cloud or container based application deployment a plus (If you don’t have this come to the interview having recently spun up a small web service in Docker or Kubernetes).
